GDPR: What do I need to know?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new, European-wide law that replaces the Data Protection Act 1998 in the UK. It places greater obligations on how organisations handle personal data. It comes into effect on 25 May 2018. For more details and key definitions see the Information Commissions Office’s (ICO) website GDPR_Key Definitions.

What is Knill James doing about GDPR?

At Knill James we have always taken careful steps to ensure data security; to further comply with the GDPR guidelines we have formed a steering group across the firm to ensure best practice and compliance is upheld.  We will be producing a privacy statement that you will be able to read on our website that will detail how we use, store and process data in line with GDPR.

Further to this we are also updating our processes and policies for privacy and data protection, reviewing IT security, auditing our databases and optimising our communication processes.  We are also providing comprehensive training for all staff on the principles of GDPR, as well as best practice implementation across the firm.

Here at Knill James, we also offer a Secure Client Portal KJ_Cloud which allows fully secure document and message exchange between ourselves and our clients for confidential data. This ensures compatibility with GDPR guidance on data processing.

The portal forms part of our unbeatable Knill James client care service offer; it provides a secure facility for personalised communications, document exchange and collaboration.  Ultimately it is designed to help us work more closely, quickly and securely with our clients.
